I purchased this product and realized that I made a mistake on the item I ordered and returned it by refusing the package when it was delivered. After about 10 days, I got a notice in my e-mail from Amazon that they were crediting my credit card in full without any questions. I gave 5 stars for the service I received from Amazon. However, I do own 3 of this device for 9 months, and It's been working just fine as it should. I have them installed in my two different conference rooms to switch between many PCs and Laptops to two LG 55" LED TV/Monitors and a Mitsubishi 73" rear projected TV. The Mitsubishi TV did not come with a VGA connection so I even have a StarTech VGA to HDMI converter installed on top of StarTech VGA switcher, and they all work harmoniously without any comparability issues. The user manual from StarTech does not explain all the features in detail, but it seems to me they work bi-directionally, so the resolutions and format of the images on the monitors are all set automatically by the PC or the Laptop. Time to time when I do not like the format the computer selects, I change it manually, but this change is limited to the video card capability in the computer. Also, this is a true 1920x1200 resolution VGA swither. But, there could be an issue with this device one needs to think about. If your TV/Monitor does not come with a vertical and horizontal image location adjustment/control for the VGA (PC) input, the image may appear off center and part of the image will be covered up. This is not the case with HDMI input. Fortunately, my monitors came with the control, but I had to call the service department of the TV to find out where that adjustment was. It was in "Setting" section of the TV control menu under PC Input. So, I have no idea when the others complain about this device. I give 5 starts for this VGA Switcher too. And, thank you again AMAZON for such a generous service.I got a couple of these for a conference that my job was holding -- with everyone wanting to show PowerPoints and pictures and the whole 9 yards, we needed a simple device that could easy switch between various computers. This switcher did not let us down. Works great -- easy as plug and play basically. There were two small things I noticed -- more or less notes to keep in mind, as they might cause you a little grief if you come across them: one was that the inputs have to be done in order. On the back of the device, each port is numbered "Input 1", or "Input 2" -- so on and so forth. It happened to be, when we were plugging everything in, that "Input 4" was the closest for the first laptop we were plugging in. It wouldn't work. We thought it was something with the device, and for the heck of it, I just decided to replug the VGA cable into "Input 1". Worked no problem. I attempted the same steps again, and the same thing occurred. So one needs to start with input 1, and then continue from there. Also, the remote works great, but unfortunately, they decided to use an infrared sensor to capture the remote's commands, so unfortunately, to be able to change the input channel, you have to stand directly (or at least pretty darn close) to the front of the box, where the sensor's located.Again - these are just minor things in my book. As long as you keep those two things in mind -- the switcher works beautifully.I've been using this switch for several weeks now and I have no complaints. My old HDMI switch was a cheap store brand model from a big box store; it was functional but just barely, and when switching inputs there was often a delay of 2-3 seconds before the video signal changed. Well this thing is blazing fast compared to my old one. When I switch inputs, the video signal changes immediately. And best of all it works flawlessly with my Logitech Harmony 650 programmable remote. I'm quite satisfied with this switch, and based on the past few weeks I would not hesitate to recommend it.I first bought a 2-1 switch at HH Gregg (it wasn't cheap) so I could switch between a cable box and DVD player and couldn't get it to work. The DVD player would work OK, but the cable box would not in either port. After returning that switch I looked at quite a few of the offerings on Amazon and read their reviews and it appears that there is some randomness as to what switches will work for certain applications - one product will work great for one person and not work at all for another (maybe it depends on the type and brand of the items being switched). This particular switch didn't have many reviews, but all were 5 stars and generally matched what I wanted to use it for. The price wasn't too high or too low either. The product works great for my application, it's solidly built (box and remote) and I've got a couple of extra ports for future expansion. I've only had it a month or so, so as long as it holds up we're in good shape. This item works great. I took advantage of the serial connection to my computer so that I could switch the inputs from about 100-ft away. That worked great although there are a couple of points to make: (1) Even if you setup the connection with the correct settings (9600-N-8-1), the switcher doesn't echo back to you until you've entered a correct sequence, and (2) The commands are case sensitive. So, to select input 1, you type "I1" ("i1" won't work -- I've tried), but it won't echo back to you until after you've typed the 1.The other thing to point out is that depending on your receiving device it can take a while for the system to switch over to the new signal. That's not the fault of this device, but important to know if you're thinking to use this for rapid switching between 2 inputs. It can take multiple seconds for the switch to complete. For me, it did the job I needed it to. Recommended buyAfter having to deal with other cheap products available in Amazon I must say that StarTech delivers as promised, again. The device is flawless, tested with a Wii U, a PS3, a Raspberry Pi and a VGA->HDMI converter (with a Dreamcast on it) and I'm very happy with the ease of use, the quality of the image and the general construction quality of the device. The remote controller is black, which looks much better in the living room than other silver remotes from other similar devices in Amazon. It has a feature to boost the signal for longer cables (didn't test it) and a power off button to save a bit on the bill and probably extend the life of the device. If you value your time and don't like to go through the annoying process of having to return cheap devices and mess with cables behind your TV, trust me, spend a bit more and get some peace of mind that you will get it done on the first try.Quality product. Works very well in HD for French and UK sat boxes. Costs more than a lot of other solutions, but the quality speaks for itself. Glad I spent the extra in order to have this externally-powered switch. Solid product, but not intrusive on the shelf under the TV. Highly recommended. This item is exactly what i was hoping for my research prior to buying was obviously good. It works well doing exactly what i wanted and expected.I don't usually do reviews but I feel like I owe it to this item. I have had this now for about 4 months and I have to say I have never had any problem with it. It worked fine just as it said on the package. It is a bit expensive compared to other items but I guess you always get what you paid for. FANTASTIC!I'm a game developer that works on picky consoles that all want to be on HDMI so I'm constantly fighting with them and my monitors. The switch works well (no degradation of quality) and the IR remote has a decent range. Best of all, the monitor and devkits are happy and properly communicating. It is exactly what I needed. I'll be ordering another for home.
