I've always wanted a 7th Dragon series to be released in the US and I am glad Sega did a great localization without taking out the legendary 40 Japanese voice actor/actresses for both male and female. There is no English dub for the voices in this game. The first game was release on DS in Japan only, then the sequels were released on the PSP. 7th Dragon 2020 and 7th Dragon 2020-II is a no export for you, but you can still play the games on your PSP, but you need the English translation patches from Cavespeak. Same for the first 7th Dragon game on the Nintendo DS which needs the patch as well.Sega did a tremendous job of handling the localization without editing or taking out parts of the game unlike Nintendo and just straight translations.Since this is the first time a 7th Dragon series has been released in the US, the game is not well known to many people and remains a hidden gem.I've been playing this game more than 10 hours and I can't put it down, this kind of RPG is what I wanted for a long time now and it reminds me of some classic JRPGs and 7th Dragon III Code: VFD has lots of character. The character creation customization is unique and great. You can customize any class and gender, as there is no gender limitations and the voices provide fun personalities to each you create. The art style for the characters are amazing and have a lot of depth and thought to it. I can never get tired of them. The prologue chapters let you create your very first team with up to three characters for the game simulation and yes, they're real people in your team when you recruit them into your team. They can be edited at any party management and the edits will be carried over to a new look and class, so it is limitless. But don't do it too much, you'll ruin your own immersion. But there is no interpersonal character interaction within your party like Bioware games, but relationships still exist for dating options that is gender neutral. While you characters have voices and they do talk from your voice choices during battle and interaction of some items in the dormitories as well as during dating cut scenes, they don't speak or talk to any of the important characters and NPCs with their own voiced dialogue in cut scenes. Instead, your main character will have dialogue choices with two choices that is pretty linear to interact with the characters. Some choices can put some funny reactions, but they don't impact the plot that much. The gameplay and battles are enjoyable and don't get tiresome. Each battle has an 'Auto' option when you deal with low-level monsters once your characters are high in level. This kind of dungeon crawler is different from others and you can see your character and party members unleash their attacks and specials on the enemies. The attacks come as quick and shows the model of the characters, while casting they're shown for a longer time. The music is amazing, one of the best I've heard in video games. The electronic dance music and techno dub step music never gets boring and they're very catchy. The battle and boss battles has a retro throwback and they can remind of you some weird Japanese PS1/Sega Saturn chip-tunes. The dragon boss battles is where they shine, the tracks make you feel pump up during the battle and gives you a sense of urgency to kill the dragons as fast as possible! The exploration music for each world are unique and provide earworms. They're fascinating and I love it!Buy the soundtrack CD if you can! Since it is an Japan-only release for the soundtrack. Again, the music and vocal songs are awesome! The story has a cool twist using advanced time-travel technology where you must travel back in time with your team to stop the Dragon Calamity before they destroy humanity and other living beings. You get to travel back 12,000 years in time and then later on in the future. I won't spoil any of the plot here. But the story is great and unique which is why most of the important characters are fun with lots of character. The main mascot is a foul-mouthed rabbit-like creature, Nagamimi. While he may turn off some people, he does have lots of quirky funny dialogue and he is not family-friendly at all. Most missions have you rescue people on the way in the dungeons and it is highly recommend that you do, if you don't then you're a monster. When you kill off all the dragons within a area, the dragonbane clears up therefore making the place free from dragons. The dragon counter can be found when you are in world select showing how many are there. As you progress through the story, your hard work is shown and it is exciting to see you and your party build up and fix the problems created from the dragons. The side quests also help as well, since they provide more things to do. The building gets more populated and becomes less isolated when you do that. This game gives you a sense of accomplishment the deeper you get into the plot. The main headquarters you live in is Nodens, a high-tech research and development company that is trying to prevent the Dragon Calamity before it happens and later on in the game you can use DZ points which is Dragon points from the many dragon monsters you killed in the dungeons to construct new rooms and floors and they create more room for you to explore and extra quests to perform if you want to take a break from the main quest, so you can take many breathers in Nodens which is great. The more Dz you collect, the more you can construct new floors for the Nodens main headquarters and the people you rescued will also be there to personally congratulate or thank you for the things you've done if you choose to save themYes, I recommend 7th Dragon III Code: VFD. This is game is like a great novel with many page turners and you know want to know what happens next once the plot moves forward. I played this game for a long time now and it is hard to put down thanks to the writers and developers creating a wonderful game of the 7th Dragon series. The artwork, characters, game play, music, and battles are fun and unique. I highly recommend buying this great JRPG into your awesome Nintendo 3DS library.Thank you, Sega!
